Take advantage of S3 and Glacier Select: S3 and Glacier Select allow the retrieval of a specific subset of data directly from your objects using an SQL statement. Taking advantage of S3 and Glacier Select will simplify your architecture and preclude the need to upload all of your data sets to a database for the purpose of enabling SQL data retrievals.

Object versioning: When working with object versioning, keep in mind that you are charged for all objects stored, including the non-current versions. In order to avoid a scenario in which you end up storing thousands of versions per object, set up a lifecycle policy to expire and delete old object versions after a certain duration.

Multipart upload: When S3 multipart upload is enabled, S3 retains all the uploaded parts until you either complete or abort the upload. Throughout the lifetime of the upload request, you will be billed for all storage, bandwidth, and requests associated with the multipart upload and its partial objects. If you abort the multipart upload, Amazon S3 will delete the uploaded parts, and you will no longer be billed for them.If the multipart upload request does not complete successfully, S3 will not assemble the parts, and no object will be created. The partial objects will remain in Amazon S3 and you will keep paying for their storage even though your object has not been created.

As a best practice, set a lifecycle policy to abort multipart upload requests which are not completed after a certain amount of time.
